Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Not at all! Many members are total beginners. We'll teach you the basics and help you progress at your own pace.
Yes, we have many social events both near campus and on the lake. While we currently don't have the boat capacity for wakesurfing, we still encourage wakesurfers to join! Your board skills and comfort behind the boat transfer well to wakeboarding, and you'll enjoy the lake days and social events with our crew.
At the start of each semester, we hold tryouts for riders interested in joining our competitive team. To qualify for the men's team, you'll need to land either an invert or a spin. For the women's team, you'll need to successfully clear the wake.
Events & Lake Days
We usually go out 2-3 times a week during the semester, depending on weather and rider availability.
Transportation, gas, and coaching are free for your first ride. Ten rides are included in the general membership, and additional lake days are $15 each. NOTE: These numbers are not final and will be updated at the start of the semester.
Yes! Transportation is usually arranged through carpools. Riders often coordinate in the Flare groupchat to drive or get rides from other members.
Our most common spot is Bartlett Lake, about an hour from Tempe.
Nope! The club provides boards, ropes, life vests, and more. But if you have your own gear, you're welcome to use it!
Bring a towel, sunscreen, water, snacks, a swimsuit, and a good attitude. Everything else is provided!
Yes! Anyone can join if there is room on the boat. Just leave a note when signing up in Flare.
Dues & Memberships
Dues are $300 for general members and $350 for comp members.
Dues help cover gas for lake trips, equipment upkeep and replacement, boat operation costs, team events, safety gear, and insurance.
Pay in person, through Zelle, or on our Dues page with a secure checkout through MidFirst Bank.
General members get access to all events and lake days. Social members can attend events but do not ride. Comp team members are selected to compete in collegiate tournaments and represent ASU nationally.
